India's tour of New Zealand runs from 22 October to 1 December 2026 and packs in 12 internationals: 5 T20Is, 5 ODIs and 2 Tests. New Zealand Cricket calls it the most internationals ever scheduled for an incoming tour. Why the start time changes with every format

New Zealand moved its clocks forward on 27 September. So the whole tour is played on New Zealand Daylight Time, UTC+13. India sits at UTC+5:30, which leaves a gap of exactly 7 hours 30 minutes. Bangladesh is 30 minutes ahead of India, so if you're watching the scores from Dhaka the gap is 7 hours.

Here's what that means for you, format by format:

  • T20Is are night games at 8:00 PM local. Subtract 7.5 hours and you get 12:30 PM in India, a lunchtime start that finishes by about 4:00 PM IST.
  • ODIs are day-night games starting at 3:00 PM local. That's 7:30 AM IST, so the first innings runs through an Indian morning and the chase ends in the mid-afternoon.
  • Tests start at 11:00 AM local. That lands at 3:30 AM IST. Set an alarm. Each day's play should be over by early afternoon in India, though the exact close depends on overs bowled.

If you only remember one thing, make it this: take the New Zealand time and go back 7 and a half hours for India, 7 hours for Bangladesh. That's it.

T20I series: India 2-0 up after Christchurch

The tour opened with two high-scoring games at Hagley Oval. In the 1st T20I on 22 October, New Zealand made 225 for 4 and India chased it down at 230 for 6 with two balls left, a four-wicket win. Sanju Samson and Naman Dhir did the heavy lifting in the chase. Two days later the 2nd T20I followed a similar script at a lower total: New Zealand 180 for 5, India 181 for 6 in 19.5 overs, another four-wicket win that went to the penultimate ball.

Shreyas Iyer leads the T20I side with Tilak Varma as his deputy. The squad also includes Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is back in the T20I squad after nearly four years. Mitchell Santner captains New Zealand. The remaining three games move to Wellington (27 October), Auckland (30 October) and Hamilton (1 November).

ODI series: two captains across five games

The BCCI named its ODI and Test squads on 16 October. The ODI plan is a bit unusual, and you'll want to know it before 4 November. Shubman Gill captains the first three ODIs in Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton, with Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain. Gill then leaves the white-ball group to prepare for the Tests, and Iyer takes over for the last two games at Bay Oval on 13 and 15 November, with Ishan Kishan as his vice-captain.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in the squad for all five ODIs. Both have retired from Tests and T20Is, so these five games are your only chance to see them on this tour. We wouldn't miss them. Jasprit Bumrah is rested from the ODIs and Ravindra Jadeja isn't in the ODI squad.

If you're in India, the 7:30 AM start is the friendliest slot of the whole tour: the first innings fits before work or school, and the chase usually wraps up by around 3:30 PM IST.

Test series: Wellington and Christchurch

The tour finishes with two five-day Tests. The 1st Test is at the Basin Reserve in Wellington from 19 to 23 November, and the 2nd Test is at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from 27 November to 1 December. Shubman Gill captains, KL Rahul is vice-captain, and Jasprit Bumrah returns for the red-ball leg.

With play starting at 3:30 AM IST (4:00 AM BST), most of each day falls in the Indian night and early morning. If you're planning around it, remember that Day 1 of the 1st Test begins in the early hours of Thursday 19 November in India, not on the Wednesday evening.
