Sports betting in Uganda: one USh account, every sport on the board
Sports betting from Uganda on Gamting happens on the sportsbook, with stakes and returns in Ugandan shillings. Choose a sport, pick an event, tap a price and confirm your stake. Football is the biggest section by far, and it has its own football betting guide. This page covers how odds and bet types work, plus the other sports Ugandans follow. For adults 18 and over only.
Reading decimal odds in shillings
The sportsbook shows decimal odds. Multiply your stake by the odds and you get the full return, stake included.
- USh 5,000 at 1.85 returns USh 9,250, so the profit is USh 4,250.
- USh 2,000 at 3.10 returns USh 6,200.
- USh 10,000 at 1.25 returns USh 12,500.
Odds also tell you how likely the bookmaker thinks something is. Divide 1 by the odds: 2.00 works out at 50%, 4.00 at 25%. Add those figures up across every outcome in a market and they come to a little over 100%. That extra is the margin, and it's why the prices on both sides never quite add up evenly.
The bet types you'll use
Singles
One selection, one stake. If it wins, you're paid at the odds you took. It's the simplest bet there is, and you'll always know where you stand.
Accumulators
You put two or more selections from different events on one slip. The odds multiply, so the possible return grows, but every selection must win. A slip with five picks at 1.60 each pays about 10.5 times the stake, but you'll need five things to go right.
In-play
You bet after the event's started. Prices update as the game changes, and markets pause briefly after big moments like a goal, a wicket or a break of serve. If the odds move before you confirm, your slip shows the new price and lets you accept it or walk away.
Handicaps and draw no bet
A handicap gives one side a head start or a deficit, which evens up a lopsided match. If a strong team is listed at minus 1.5 goals, they need to win by two or more for the bet to win. Draw no bet removes the draw: if the match ends level, your stake comes back. Both are useful when a straight win price looks too short to bother with.
Outrights
You're backing who'll win a whole competition: a league title, a tournament or a championship. Your money's tied up until the end, sometimes for months. That's fine, just don't forget it's there.
Sports Ugandans follow beyond football
Athletics
We're proud of our runners, and for good reason. Stephen Kiprotich won the Olympic marathon in London in 2012, and Halimah Nakaayi took the world 800m title in Doha in 2019. When major championships and road races get markets, they're listed under athletics.
Cricket
The Cricket Cranes played their first T20 World Cup in 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, and beat Papua New Guinea there. You'll find international cricket, including the big T20 leagues, in its own section, with markets on the match, top batter and more.
Basketball
Plenty of us in Kampala stay up for the NBA, with games tipping off in the early hours EAT. The national team, the Silverbacks, have their fixtures added when FIBA windows are scheduled and markets are offered.
Netball
The She Cranes are one of the best supported national teams in the country and have played at several Netball World Cups. When their matches or the big international series carry markets, they sit under netball or other sports.
Rugby, boxing and tennis
The Rugby Cranes compete on the sevens circuit, boxing has a long Ugandan tradition through the Bombers, and tennis runs almost every week of the year. What's covered depends on the event, so check the menu to see what's open.
Using the bet slip properly
- Tap a price. The selection appears on the slip with its odds.
- Add more selections if you want an accumulator, or keep them as separate singles.
- Type your stake in USh and check the possible return the slip shows.
- Look over the event, the market and the odds one last time.
- Confirm. The slip clears and the bet appears in your history as open.
If any part of the slip turns red or asks for your attention, read the message. It usually means a price has moved or a market has closed.
How bets settle
- Read the rules line. Each market tells you what counts. In football that's usually regular time, in basketball it often includes overtime.
- Postponed or abandoned events. They follow the market's own rules. Often the bet's voided and you get your stake back.
- Voided legs in an accumulator. Usually that leg is taken out and the rest of the slip continues at the reduced odds.
- Your history. Open, won, lost and voided bets all appear there, with the stake and the return.

Bet with a plan
Decide your weekly limit in shillings, put a small share of it on each bet, and keep a note of how you're doing. Hit the limit? You're done until next week. Betting should never be a way to pay bills or recover losses. If it starts to feel like that, our responsible gambling page can help. To get going, sign up, fund your account with the USDT and USDC guide and check this week's fixtures on Gamting Uganda.
